omg!! You only have 30 seconds to make an impression? How you can talk business without looking desperate?

elevatorIt’s often said that you have one chance at a first impression.  Well the same is true in business.  Many times Realtors® have told me that they didn’t know how to move a conversation along without sounding pushy or it sounding too much like a sales pitch.  Well here is a quick tip that may help you out.

Get an elevator speech!

Having an Elevator speech prepared and memorized can help any sales pro.  So what is an elevator speech?  Just imagine you get into an elevator with someone.  You have about 30 seconds to chat with them before one of you gets out of the elevator.  What if you could switch any conversation to a Real Estate conversation in that amount of time?  Here’s an example…

Realtor®: “Hey there, how was your weekend?”

Potential Client: “Not bad, how was yours?’

Realtor®: “Fantastic, I sold 2 houses this weekend”

Potential Client: “Huh, what?  You sold houses this weekend?”

Realtor®: “That’s right, I’m a Realtor, I help people buy and sell homes.”

That’s just a quick example but it works very well, in fact, one of my agents just mentioned to me that they tried that line just recently and they were showing homes which led to a deal by the end of the week.

This can be a great technique if you are consistently feeling uncomfortable starting real estate conversations with strangers.  It can be an easy lead in to getting the ball rolling.

Everyone loves to talk about real estate.  What’s the market doing, where is it going, how are the interest rates.  Is it a good time to buy?  etc.

Getting onto the topic, can be as quick as 30 seconds.

Do you have a great elevator speech you would like to share?  Post it below in the comments.
